Buy a piano

For many people buying a piano is a major investment. The first time piano buyer often finds the entire process confusing, with so many choices. Price points, styles, sizes, colors, materials, warranty, cabinet, finish, etc.

  • Should I buy an acoustic piano, or will a digital piano do?
  • How much do I need to spend on a piano?
  • Should I buy a new piano or a used piano?
  • Buy a piano from a dealer, a tuner, or a private sale?
  • How much room do I need for the piano?
  • How much does a piano weigh?
  • How often should a piano be tuned?
  • What features do I need to look for in a digital piano?
  • Do digital pianos need to be tuned?
  • What about an electric piano?

While piano buying doesn’t have as many resources available as say, buying a car, there are some very helpful places available on the Internet where you can get answers to your questions, often for free.

Of course we like to think a great one is where you are now, Piano World, home of the world famous piano forums. The other is The Acoustic & Digital Piano Buyer books and web site from long time piano expert (and author of the “Piano Book”) Larry Fine along with his new partner and digital piano expert Alden Skinner.

We are happy to be able to provide you with two very informative, interesting, and helpful articles courtesy of the Piano Buyer. One is about buying a digital piano, the other is about buying an acoustic piano.
