Roland GP607 (Polished Ebony)
Roland GP607 Mini Grand
The Roland GP607 Mini Grand piano offers sound and performance capabilities that acoustic pianos simply can’t provide
There’s nothing quite like the experience of owning a grand piano, provided you have the room and the investment (which may end up being a five- or six-figure piece of furniture). Actually, that’s not entirely true. There’s a better pianistic experience waiting for you thanks to Roland and the GP607 Mini Grand piano—and it’s far more affordable and space-saving but no less elegant in appearance. Available in polished ebony or white, the GP607 takes its form from the traditional grand pianos that have graced the stages of concert halls for 200 years, but inside, something quite different and spectacular is going on. Rather than hammers and strings that require tuning, and a soundboard with 17 tons of pressure on it, the GP607 uses Roland’s state-of-the-art modeling technology to give you not only all the nuance and feel of an acoustic grand and the ability to adjust tone and touch to taste, but also grants access to a virtual orchestra of sound.
Roland GP607 Mini Grand—Key Features:
- Classic mini grand digital piano, designed for the living room

Roland GP607 Mini Grand—Under the Lid
Old-world craftsmanship meets modern technology
If you’re a concert pianist or a Juilliard MA teaching piano (or both), it pays to have a grand (or two) in your living room. But for those who are looking for musical enjoyment while making an impressive decorative statement, you may find yourself in over your head. An acoustic grand piano can have over 12,000 parts, exert 30 tons of pressure across its soundboard, weigh between 500 and 1,200 pounds, and will require regular tuning by a certified technician. Just the physical logistics of getting a baby grand or full grand piano into your home or apartment (assuming you have the room) requires a qualified moving crew and expensive maintenance. Let’s say you don’t find that daunting enough. Rearranging the furniture in your living room is not a decision you’ll make lightly. The GP607, on the other hand, while providing the optics of an elegant and expensive piece of finely crafted furniture, is light-weight and easy to move, plus, its internal electronics make it maintenance-free. Available in polished ebony or polished white finishes, you can start playing by simply opening the lid and hitting the keys. But this digital model spares you the expense of regular tune-ups, thanks to the reliable onboard sound processor. And the lightweight cabinet is easy to move around your home to find the perfect position. Plus, for silent practice the immerses you in sound, its headphone output is capable of 3D sound via Roland’s Headphones 3D Ambience.
Roland’s SuperNATURAL sound engine and PHA-50 keyboard
When we say that a digital keyboard can satisfy both amateur and professional, we’re not just talking about sound quality. As any classical pianist will tell you, escapement, s an essential feature that without it, would disqualify a digital piano as an option.
Escapement, also known as “let-off,” is what allows the hammer to be released (escape) after it strikes the string, even if the key is still depressed. Without this “single escapement,” the hammer would be held against the string (muting its vibrations) for as long as the key was depressed. What’s unique about the escapement is the feel it has when you press a key. It has a specific “clicking” feel when a key is depressed about halfway down, which is an integral characteristic of acoustic piano action.
The escapement action and clicking feel, typically found only on high-end digital pianos, is a feature found all Roland digital pianos, regardless of price point, which makes the GP607 that much more of an incredible value—and enables experienced pianists to seamlessly transition from acoustic to Roland digital pianos, and conversely, students who learned on digital pianos to play acoustic pianos without having to alter their technique.

Customize sound and keyboard articulation
The SuperNATURAL modeling engine not only gives you realistic expression, but also you can easily adjust the sound of the GP607 at the touch of a button. For example, you can select a bright sound for modern musical styles, such as jazz or pop, or a darker sound that’s associated with music of the classical and romantic eras. But it doesn’t stop there. Along with master tuning, ambience effects, and 10 selectable temperaments, you can adjust key-off, hammer, and damper noise; various types of resonance including cabinet, damper, full-scale string, and key-off; and single note tuning, volume, and character. The GP607 features a 363-song library along with playback and recording of MIDI files and 16-bit/44.1kHz .wav files.
For expression, along with providing damper, soft, and sostenuto pedals capable of continuous detection (as opposed to simple on/off), the 88-key PHA-50 key bed offer a number of user-controllable parameters, including 100 types of key touch, and the look, feel, and weight of ivory keys thanks to their unique wood/synthetic hybrid construction.
Premium sound system of legendary lineage
Along with being a premier manufacturer of digital keyboards and synthesizers, Roland had made a name for itself producing instrument amplifiers, such as the venerable Jazz Chorus 120, the gold standard for professional jazz guitarists, renowned for its power, clarity, and sparkling sound. Roland has brought that same expertise to bear in the GP607’s sound system. To give you a musically inspiring experience and room-filling larger-than-life sound, it features a high-quality 4.1, multi-channel speaker system that combines a 20-watt, 8″ low-frequency woofer, two 5-watt 2″ midrange drivers for nearfield projection, and two 20-watt 5″ drivers that provide spatial information to envelop you and the room with realistic sound, the way an acoustic piano does. Of course, the GP607 goes one better with volume control. But it doesn’t stop there. Its Bluetooth functionality enables the GP607 to replace your hi-fi, wirelessly connecting to your tablet or smartphone playing songs and playlists through the speakers. And if you’re in the mood to be entertained without having to work for it, the GP607 becomes the ultimate player piano via a dedicated app for Apple Watch that lets you control the GP607’s internal song library remotely from the comfort of your sofa.

Improve your technique with onboard educational features and apps
Learning the piano is both a physical and mental acquisition that can prove challenging to adults and children alike. However, with a little dedication and the expanded educational features that the GP607 offers as an alternative to conventional learning, you can boost your technique in ways that book-learning can’t offer. For example, jamming with onboard songs prepares you for joining a band or orchestra, while the Twin Piano mode allows a learner and teacher to sit side-by-side and play in the same key range. The built-in metronome promotes accurate timing, while the onboard recorder lets you capture what you’ve been working on to instantly evaluate your progress. There’s audio and MIDI playback from USB memory, plus integrated Bluetooth MIDI functionality that lets you wirelessly connect to apps, such as Roland’s Piano Partner 2, and also access digital sheet music, song libraries, and more. The Roland GP607 makes practice a pleasure, not a chore, ensuring that you’ll stay motivated and your piano skills will constantly improve.
